Man steals grocery-filled trolley for his baby-mama
A 22-year-old man, Bosa Molaodi, who pretended to assist a woman with a trolley full of groceries in front of Choppies Stores in Kanye, fled with the trolley. The woman, whose groceries were stolen, was left behind in shock.
Speaking to The Midweek Sun this week, Boikanyo Mosimanegape (55) said she never imagined the young man would run away with her groceries. She had assumed he was helping her push the trolley to her car. “I was walking slowly behind him. I decided to buy tomatoes from the nearby vendors. He suddenly picked up speed with the trolley and pushed it toward the bus rank, then disappeared. Fortunately, I managed to find out who he was,” Mosimanegape said, and did not hesitate to report the matter to the police. When he appeared before the Kanye customary court on
Thursday, Molaodi pleaded guilty to the charge. The groceries inside the trolley were worth P349.95 and included 2kg of macaroni, 10kg of Tastic rice, 10kg of Super A1 maize meal, 200g of mayonnaise, tomato sauce, cooking oil, and other items.
Police recovered part of the stolen goods, but the 10kg of rice and the cooking oil, valued at P189.98, were missing. The suspect was described as a habitual thief with other pending cases. During mitigation, Molaodi pleaded for leniency, stating that his girlfriend had recently given birth and he was trying to support her.
He also mentioned that he was preparing to apply for school and feared imprisonment would hinder his plans to start a course. He was sentenced to receive four strokes and ordered to pay the missing groceries worth P189.98. Failure to pay will result in a six-month jail term. He was advised that he may appeal the ruling within one month if he has issues with the fine.
