Help Police find a stolen 'BX'
A government-owned white Land Cruiser twin-cab vanished without a trace from Mogoditshane Junior Secondary School this past weekend in a daring theft incident that has left the police baffled.
Mogoditshane Station Commander, Mbiganyi Letsholathebe, said the vehicle was parked at the school on Saturday afternoon by a government driver returning from official duty.
After dropping off colleagues at their homes, the driver left the car in the open school yard, planning to pick it up first thing Monday morning.
But on Monday, he had an unpleasant surprise; the twin cab was gone!
“He is clueless as to what could have happened, the car keys are still with him, but the car is gone,” Letsholathebe told The Midweek Sun.
“The car was not hidden; it was parked openly, yet nobody saw who took it. We are investigating and appeal to the community to help us track it down.”
What puzzles police even more is the motive. “It is mind-boggling why anyone would steal a government vehicle,” Letsholathebe said, noting that car theft in Mogoditshane has reached worrying levels.
Criminals have become bolder and sophisticated. Some pose as genuine buyers at dealerships, request a test drive, and then vanish with the car.
Others steal vehicles from yards and parking lots, swiftly changing registration numbers to dodge detection.
“These tricksters always have an escape plan,” Letsholathebe warned.
“Once they have the car, they disguise it and resell it far away from where it was stolen.”
Police are urging anyone with information about the missing government Land Cruiser to notify them immediately.
