Jilted lover drives truck into ex’s house
A 26-year-old man appeared before the Lobatse Magistrate Court on Monday, charged with murder and attempted murder.
He allegedly drove a truck into his ex-lover’s house in a violent attack that killed a 7-month-old baby. The man, employed as a truck driver, is said to have launched the early morning assault at the home of his 25-year-old former partner in Phitshane-Potlokwe, Ramatlabama.
According to information gathered by The Midweek Sun, the suspect drove straight into the house while the woman, her infant, her seven-year-old daughter, and her current boyfriend were asleep. The impact caused the structure to collapse, crushing the baby to death.
The three other occupants, believed to be the mother, her older child (seven years), and her boyfriend, were pulled from the rubble by police and neighbours. They were taken to the hospital for treatment and later discharged. “The noise shook the whole neighbourhood. We woke up to screams and crashing sounds,” an eyewitness said, adding that the suspect had a child with the woman, which may have fuelled the attack.
The accused's plea was reserved in court, as police investigations are still ongoing. He remains in custody awaiting his next court appearance. Ramatlabama police station commander, Superintendent Mary Baabina, described the incident as tragic and avoidable.
“When the relationship is over, learn to move on. Love also comes to an end,” she said, urging members of the public to handle breakups peacefully.
