A bizarre scene unfolded in Lejwana during Easter holidays, where a love proposal ended in pain, and a man’s tongue was ripped off by the very woman he longed for.

According to eyewitnesses, a 33-year-old man from Bethel had been persistently proposing love to a 31-year-old woman from Lejwana.

The two were seen together earlier in the day, with the man buying her alcohol at a local bar, reportedly in an attempt to win her affection. But things took a shocking turn as the night wore on.

Speaking to The Midweek Sun, Superintendent Mogogi Mathaba of Goodhope Police confirmed the details of the incident. He said the matter is under investigation.

“The man proposed love to the woman, but his proposal was declined,” Mathaba said.

It is believed that as the bars neared closing time, the man grabbed the woman and attempted to kiss her by force.

Witnesses allege he went as far as forcing his tongue into her mouth.

In response, the woman struggled hard to push the man away, bit his tongue, and tore off a portion of it.

Eyewitnesses noticed the man bleeding uncontrollably from his mouth. Lerwana villagers are still shocked by the incident, with some saying this is a reminder that no means no, and consent should always be respected, regardless of how many drinks have been shared.

One passer-by told The Midweek Sun, “I thought he had been stabbed. Blood was just gushing out of his mouth, and he could not even yell for help properly, it was terrifying,” she said.

Police were alerted immediately, and the injured man was rushed to a nearby hospital. He is currently recovering, although reports say he can no longer speak properly.

The woman involved was not remanded but was taken in for questioning.

“All she says is that the man kept proposing love to her and she told him she was not interested,” Superintendent Mathaba said.
