DNA test exposes mother’s false paternity claim, told to refund the 'father'
A young mother, Koketso Kebinaefe, found herself in an embarrassing situation after a court-ordered DNA test revealed that Benjamin Ogaeng was not the biological father of her three-year-old child.
The case, which had been ongoing since December 2024, was presided over by Kanye Senior Magistrate Keneilwe Kgoadi. Initially, the court had ordered Ogaeng to undergo a DNA test after he expressed concerns that he was not the father.
Additionally, the court required Ogaeng to cover the related transport costs while contributing P1 000 per month toward the child’s maintenance. However, when the test results arrived, they contradicted Kebinaefe’s claims.
Following the revelation, Magistrate Kgoadi ruled that Kebinaefe must refund Ogaeng the maintenance money he had paid and remove his name from the child’s birth certificate and any other official records where he was listed as the father.
Kebinaefe, who had previously been warned against misusing maintenance funds, walked out of court in silence, visibly shaken by the outcome.
Meanwhile, Ogaeng, now legally freed from any financial responsibility for the child, left the court with his head held high.
DNA paternity tests are highly accurate and are considered strong evidence of paternity. They are readily available through clinics and testing companies, and in many jurisdictions, the results can be used in legal proceedings to establish paternity.
