Man convicted of indecent assault on school boys
Kgotlanyame Peloyakgosi (48), will know his fate this Friday, November 22 in the Mahalapye Magistrate Court, following his conviction on 18 Counts of Indecent Assault against 18 school boys between the ages of nine and 18.
It emerged during court proceedings that Peloyakgosi, who sexually assaulted the boys in their hostel, took advantage of less privileged and vulnerable children from surrounding settlements.
The trial was held at their Primary School as a way of not removing the children and their parents from their familiar environment.
During the time of the assaults, he was hired as a security guard and then a cook in the same school and was redeployed due to the criminal investigations. Details of the case are that the accused had been forcefully masturbating and pulling on the boys’ penises in the hostel.
He would corner them when they were alone or as a group when they were bathing. In some instances, he would spit on his palm and start masturbating them until they ejaculated in front of the other boys. This went on unknown to anyone else until one of the boys had courage to run away from boarding to his parent’s home in Pallaroad on foot and by hitchhiking.
After revealing details of the sordid act, the matter was then reported to the social workers and tribal authorities and eventually to the police in March 2024.
Presiding over this matter is Magistrate Kefilwe Resheng and the State is represented by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
According to the latest Violence Against Children Study conducted in 2018, nine percent of girls experienced sexual violence in childhood compared to six percent of boys who experienced sexual violence in childhood.
