BDP members fall off a truck
What was meant to be a jubilant day for Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) members in Gabane at the launch of parliamentary candidate Kagiso Mmusi ended in pain and injuries.
This happened when seven of the party faithful fell off a truck during a motorcade in the Mmankgodi area. Mmusi admitted this and even apologised to the injured, saying the unfortunate incident was highly regrettable.
'They did not hold on properly while inside the truck leading to them falling. However, I have since received a report that they were taken to the hospital in Molepolole and are recovering.
“Three are still hospitalised while others have been released, I promise that the party branch will get in touch with their parents, we wish them a speedy recovery,' he said.
In a separate matter, Mmusi says he is a happy man to have finally met the contractor responsible for constructing the long-awaited Gabane-Mmankgodi road dual carriageway.
Construction of the road stalled for the last few years, with the government explaining that it has no money. Nonetheless, last month the government promised that the construction of the road would soon commence.
“When I was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Gabane–Mmankgodi in 2019, I had things which I wanted to achieve and the dual carriage-way is one of them. I am pleased that I finished my term and delivered on my promise”.
He said he also wanted to fight crime in the area, and believes that he handled it well in his capacity as Minister of Defence and Security.
“This is why I am begging for re-election,” Mmusi appealed.
He feels that compared to his competitors Ofentse Mareme of Botswana Congress Party (BCP) and Pius Mokgware of Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), he is a better option to continue where
he left off as MP.
Mmusi said that given a chance, he will do much more for his constituency; he still has great plans to unpack.
Meanwhile, UDC Parliamentary candidate for Tlokweng Phenyo Segokgo said Mmusi is bluffing, and does not trust him one bit.
“Ke fa go le latolela tsela e neng gotwe ya diriwa from Mogoditshane to Mmankgodi, Bagaetsho tsela eo gaeyo,” Segokgo said, adding that Mmusi is just trying to canvass votes ahead of the elections scheduled for the end of the month.
He went on to remind the people of Gabane and Mmankgodi not to vote for Mmusi but Mokgware because the road that Mmusi was talking about was Mokgware’s brainchild.
Mokgware is a former Gabane-Mmankgodi MP. He served from 2010-2014 and from 2014-2019.
“BDP is not serious; they are broke because they have no clear priorities, they failed to deliver that road to the people, they wasted money on insignificant things.
“Currently, clinics have no medication and Batswana are suffering. Please do not return Mmusi to parliament, we need change,” Segokgo said.
