Miss World owner Julia Morley praises Botswana on Anicia choice
Director of Miss World Botswana, Benjamin Raletsatsi, says Chief Executive Officer (CE0) of Miss World Organisation, Julia Morley, approves of Botswana’s Anicia Gaothusi, who will represent the country at the 72nd world event
Raletsatsi shared this to show that as the Miss Botswana team, they know their job when choosing a queen to represent Botswana at the prestigious event.
And it is because of the hard work they put into picking the best of the best, that he finds it shocking that some Batswana think they can intentionally destroy and frustrate their product in Gaothusi.
“This is one of the most powerful experiences I have ever had, the Saturday that Anicia won Miss Botswana, I got a call with a country code of +44. Normally I do not answer such calls as we associate them with scammers, but I answered the phone and guess what, it was Julia Morley, the owner of Miss World.
“And her message was 'Congratulations you have chosen a beautiful queen.' I have never received that in my entire five years of hosting Miss Botswana and for me, that was validation that we are going in the right direction,” Raletsatsi said.
Going into the 72nd edition of Miss World expected to happen in February or March, Raletsatsi believes that 2025 is Botswana’s time, and Gaothusi will bring the crown home.
Raletsatsi said they had given themselves a target of winning the crown with Lesego Chombo but were happy that she finished as Miss World Africa, and it was acceptable. They now believe that with Gaothusi, Botswana will clinch her first world title.
The Botswana queen, Gaothusi, also feels it is her year and time.
Lately, Raletsatsi and his team have been under attack, accused of sabotaging the queen and frustrating her behind closed doors.
Batswana heavily criticised the queen’s wardrobe saying it is not befitting for a queen, the outrage, forced the organisation to apologize to the public and promise to do better.
He now appeals to all to protect the product that all Botswana claim to love, they are open to criticism but wish it can be done in a way that will not taint the reputation of the queen because the world is watching.
Raletsatsi said that when they began managing the Miss Botswana brand six years ago, it was one of the hardest things to walk into.
The organisation was embroiled in controversies, basically a dead brand. They worked hard to breathe life into it and results are now showing.
When former Miss Botswana Palesa Molefe went to compete on the world stage, they were very intentional, they wanted to mesmerise the world and Palesa executed the assignment well.
Botswana continued to shine the following year with Chombo and this is why they are confident that they are doing something right and can feel that the crown is within reach.
