The people of Gabane are worried that their land is being stolen and taken away from them under government’s watch; they say their village is being gobbled by Mogoditshane.

This was revealed by concerned villagers during a meeting held at the Kgotla by Kweneng land board this Tuesday.

They told Kweneng landboard Chairperson, Kgang Kgang that they are shocked that their village is not growing while neighbouring villages of Mogoditshane and Mmopane continue to expand so much that they now have new names such as Mmopane Block 1 and Mogoditshane Block 5 and 7 while Gabane remains a single unit.

They loudly complained that the villages of Mmopane and Mogoditshane found them in existence, claiming that even the land where Mogoditshane Senior Secondary School sits belongs to the people of Gabane.

Gabane Chief, Seeletso Pule concurred with his people. He told The Midweek Sun that indeed the school sits on what used to be farms belonging to the people of Gabane. He said his people are within their rights to demand

that they be brought a map which will fully detail the boundaries of their village.

In response, Kgang said the people of Gabane should get answers about boundaries at council, saying they are better placed to speak about the matter.

Councillor for Gabane North-East said the issue of Gabane land being taken away from them has long been raised by residents and to date, the matter has not been resolved.

'This issue has been on the table for many years, former Assistant minister of Local Government and Rural Development Botlogile Tshireletso knows about it, she tried to work on it until she left office.

“The issue is that landboard has issued certificates written Block 7 and the like because landboard introduced blocks when allocating land. It is true that much of the land being referred to as Mogoditshane now belongs to Gabane, the only remedy available is to reverse the decision of splitting the village into blocks.”
