In a landmark decision within Botswana's football circles, Extension Gunners Football Club and Jwaneng Young Stars Football Club are on the verge of agreeing to a historic status swap ahead of the upcoming 2024/2025 season. The official letter shared by the management of both clubs dated 20 June, marks a possible shift in their respective league standings.

The two clubs held careful consideration and negotiations between them. Extension Gunners FC, currently participating in the Debswana First Division South League, is enroute to take over the status of Jwaneng Young Stars FC, who were recently promoted to the Botswana Premier League (BFL). Meanwhile, Jwaneng Young Stars FC will assume Extension Gunners FC's status in the Debswana First Division South League. Financial terms are also a crucial aspect of the agreement.

According to the proposal letter between the teams which was signed by Jwaneng Young Stars Board Director, Morwa Moleofhe, Jwaneng Young Stars FC's Premier League status was valued at BWP 1,100,000.00, while Extension Gunners FC's status in the First Division South League was valued at BWP 500,000.00. The equity exchange value was established at BWP 600,000.00. This sum is set to be paid in two installments: BWP 300,000.00 immediately after the signing of the agreement and the remaining BWP 300,000.00 over a period of six months at a rate of BWP 50,000.00 per month. "Both parties agree to draft a legal agreement to formalize the transaction and ensuring compliance with the Botswang Football Association Regulations Article 20.4," the letter reads.

Reached for response to the development, Extension Gunners' Mouthpiece, Mmualefe denied that they have held such talks with Young Stars. "We are busy preparing ourselves for First Division South League as you have seen we hosted trials last week," he said. However, this publication is in possession of the letter that shows communication between the two clubs to swap their respective league statuses. Extension Gunners based in Lobatse is one of the football giants in local football but their continued decline over the years saw them relegate to the low DFDSL. Guna Guna is known for its passionate fanbase and has a rich history in Botswana football, having competed in various national and international competitions over the years.
