Setopoti customer (51) rapes 6-year-old beer seller's daughter
A 51-year-old man of Ramokgonami village in the Tswapong area will be arraigned before Palapye magistrate court for allegedly defiling a six-year-old standard one pupil this past weekend.
The incident happened not far from the home of the six-year-old, while her mother was busy selling traditional beer made from watermelons (Setopoti).
The man allegedly arrived and found the minor playing with his little brother while the mother was busy serving her customers. He called the girl aside and proceeded to the nearby big bushy trees not far from the home with her.
Once there, he is suspected to have defiled the minor and once done, left her at the scene.
Around 1800hrs when the mother was done selling beer, she called her children ready to lock up and end her business day. It was at that point that she realised her little girl was nowhere in sight.
When she asked the boy, he hinted that he saw his sister walking outside the gate with an unfamiliar man.
The mother began calling out the six-year-old and she responded with a loud cry behind the trees. Asked what had happened, she confessed that the man had penetrated her and left her there.
The matter was reported to the police, and it has been established that she had indeed been violated.
Martin’s Drift Police station commander Moses Morolong confirmed investigating the matter.
“We have arrested a 51-year-old man for allegedly defiling a six-year-old. He is a resident of Ramokgonami and indications are that he was one of the customers that day.
“He will be arraigned before court sometime this week. The minor is currently undergoing counselling at the hospital,” Morolong said.
He added that cases of defilement and rape are of concern in his policing area and urged parents to exercise vigilance at all times especially in situations where strangers come in and out of their homes.
