Son threatens to literally blow out mother's brain

Calvin Olebogeng Gaoatswe (23) of Tshukudu ward in Motokwe village, is in jail for threatening to kill his own mother Keolebetse Gaoatswe in Mmatseta recently.

Broadhurst Magistrate Phetogo Segomotso this past Friday heard that on the 25th January 2023, Calvin allegedly said to his mother, “Mongwe mo go lona o tsile go tshologa boboko, basimane ba neng ke ba romile ba kgoreleditswe ke dintsa.”

The spine-chilling words to the mother suggested that some within their family would die from their brains being blown out, and that the family members were lucky that the boys he had sent to do the job for him the previous day were distracted by dogs.

Fearing for her life, Gaoatswe informed the police that her own son was threatening to kill her. The 23-year-old was arrested last week.

In court, Calvin had very little to say when given an opportunity to talk by Magistrate Segomotso. He only pleaded to be allowed to engage an attorney.

The prosecutor pleaded with the court to remand Calvin in custody as he was a threat to his mother’s safety.

He argued that the accused resides in Mmatseta with his mother hence it would be risky to let him go back after the threats he made.

Magistrate Segomotso then remanded Calvin in custody. He will be released on the 20th February 2023 when he comes to court for case status update.
