A 28-year-old woman is lucky to have returned home safely after traveling from Lobatse to Sikwane for a man she had never met but was her lover.

Station commander Mmoloki Mogale of Mmathubudikwane Police says the woman had never seen the 25-year-old man before, but only spoke to him a few days earlier through the phone when the man had mistakenly dialled her number thinking he was calling a friend.

The man then proposed and the woman agreed to date him.

He then requested that the lady pay him a visit in Sikwane to which the woman agreed. The man then sent her transport money.

Upon arrival at Sikwane, the woman was disgusted by what she saw, firmly believing that the man was not her type, labelling him unattractive.

“She then told the man that she had changed her mind and was no longer interested in dating him. The infuriated man would not hear any of this. He demanded a refund for the transport money.

“The girl told him that he had used part of it to travel to Sikwane. The man forcibly took what was left of the money from the woman. The argument got heated and the woman called the police for intervention,” Mogale narrated.

It was only after the police knocked sense into the man that he finally gave back the woman her money.

Mogale advises women to stop taking risks by agreeing to meet strangers, saying the lady was fortunate given the many rape cases that result from such encounters which are reported on a daily basis. He said some men go to the extent of killing women when angry.
