TODDLER REMAINS EXHUMED

In a heart-wrenching case that has sent shockwaves across Palapye, two women have been charged with the murder of a four-year-old boy, following the grisly discovery of his remains buried along the Lotsane riverbank.The suspects, Chendzimu Gababoloke (38) and Keneilwe Seanga (42), appeared before court this past Monday and have been remanded in custody until June 17, 2025, while investigations continue.According to information presented to court, the toddler had been left in the care of his mother’s cousin, Gababoloke, on the fateful day.It remains unclear what exactly transpired, but unconfirmed reports allege that Gababoloke may have physically assaulted the child.The boy is believed to have fallen asleep after the beating, only for Gababoloke to later discover that he had died.Panicked and unsure of what to do, she allegedly confided in her neighbour, Seanga.The two then decided to secretly bury the child near the Lotsane River instead of alerting authorities. When the child’s mother returned home and found her son missing, a frantic search began.She reported the disappearance to the police, prompting a formal investigation.Days later, suspicion quickly turned toward Gababoloke, and under police questioning, the harrowing truth began to emerge.Police sought permission from the District Commissioner to exhume the body and to the horror of Palapye residents, the toddler's lifeless body was indeed discovered where the women had allegedly buried him.A post-mortem examination has since been conducted.Initially, the suspects faced charges of unlawful disposal of a dead body, but those charges have since been upgraded to murder.The police are expected to release the body to the grieving family this week for burial.
