WILD ATTACK

A 45-year-old man of Lerala village in the Tswapong area is nursing life threatening body injuries after being mauled by a hyena.

Moses Morolong of Martin’s Drift Police told The Midweek Sun this week that the man was attacked by the vicious animal while walking along the bushy terrains of Lerala and Majwaneng villages.

The man was in search of his lost livestock when he felt something violently knock him to the ground. Before he could make sense of what was happening, he felt sharp teeth piercing through his flesh.

“The animal bit hard into his legs, so much he is unable to walk, the injuries are severe. He came close to losing both his legs,” Morolong explained.

Fortunately for the man, he was holding an axe which he used to hack the hyena to death. When the animal finally dropped to the ground, signalling defeat, the man, who was in the middle of nowhere tried to proceed with his journey but the unbearable pain stopped him on his tracks.

He sat down and began screaming for help at the top of his voice, hoping to get help from passers-by.

“He was fortunate because where he had been walking was not far from the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) Camp and the men heard his screams.

“They rushed to where he was and found him bleeding on both legs. The police were called and he was rushed to the clinic but due to the severity of the injuries, he was transferred to Palapye hospital where he remains hospitalised,” Morolong said.
