- Accused of killing Moshupa toddler

Jacob Leselamose of Moshupa will appear before magistrate Ntuli Ditebogo of Kanye Magistrate Court on Thursday in connection with the killing of a three-year-old child in May this year.

In his last court appearance a month ago, Leselamose had pleaded with the court to grant him bail but was turned down.

Reasons advanced for opposing bail by the prosecution at the time was that he (Leselamose) is a neighbour to the deceased's family in Moshupa and might tamper with ongoing investigations.

The prosecution had also hinted that Leselamose seemed unwell, advising that it was not wise for him to be among members of the public.

A seemingly restless Leselamose had at one point stood up from his chair and walked towards the court chambers. Officers escorting him were forced to chain both his hands and legs to prevent his aimless movements.

The accused also interrupted court proceedings at one point by shouting and demanding the magistrate’s attention, unmindful that the magistrate was busy with other things.

When denying Leselamose bail, the magistrate had said, “You had applied for bail, and considering the presentation handed by the prosecution, I find it to be in the public interest and for the accused's safety that his bail be denied and that the accused's be remanded in custody.

“It has been pointed out that he stays in the same neighbourhood as that the deceased is from. He is also to be taken to Sbrana Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.”

The public will be interested in knowing the contents of the psychiatric evaluation report as allegations thrown around have been that there might be something wrong with Leselamose for him to kill an innocent child.
