* Bizarre Makalamabedi murder case shocks community
The village of Makalamabedi, near Maun, has been left reeling in shock after a five-year-old girl was allegedly murdered in what police describe as a deeply disturbing incident.
Authorities say the suspect, Kabelo Innocent Marumo, 23, was arrested on March 20, 2026, at Xhiridomo cattle post after being found in possession of a cooler bag containing human remains.
He appeared before the Maun Magistrate Court on March 24, facing a single count of murder. The alleged crime is believed to have occurred between March 19 and 20.
According to sources, Marumo had attempted to attack his grandfather with a wooden stick while pretending to search for cattle. The elderly man managed to avert the assault.
Shortly afterwards, Marumo allegedly lured the minor to an abandoned house on the outskirts of the village, where he is accused of strangling her before mutilating her body.
Police say the suspect decapitated the child, severed her left leg, cut off the right hand fingers and removed internal organs, which were later discovered in his possession. However, the fingers were nowhere to be found.
Investigators are also probing suspicions of sexual assault, though this has not yet been confirmed.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Near Bagali confirmed the arrest, noting that investigations are ongoing.
The suspect has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to reappear in court on April 7, 2026.
The case has sent shockwaves through Makalamabedi, a community unaccustomed to such violence, with residents expressing fear and disbelief at the brutality of the crime.
