BPP launches aggressive campaign

Botswana People’s Party (BPP) plans to launch an aggressive campaign in the southern part of the country to reclaim its presence.BPP President Motlatsi Molapisi says the notion by many that the BPP is a regional party is not only false but also misleading. He revealed that the BPP used to have its footprints in the southern part of Botswana.He said the plan is to dispatch a team led by the party's vice president to resuscitate its structures across the country, especially in the southern part.Molapisi told a media briefing in Gaborone that the intention is not only to focus on structures but also membership drive. According to Molapisi, the team will also have to establish a head office in Gaborone so that the Francistown one becomes a regional office.“We are not a small party as some people think. Even our contributions to this country speak volumes. We want our presence in the southern part of this country to be felt. We are engaging in a massive campaign for that.The BPP played a significant role in Botswana’s independence. Don't be misled by people that the three chiefs are the ones who got us independence, no, it is the BPP leadership”, Molapisi said.He told the media that even in the current administration, the BPP played a big role in ensuring the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) is defeated during the 2024 general elections. He said the BPP, as one of the oldest parties, has long preached unity among the opposition parties.Molapisi stated that the BPP is happy with its share within the current government of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).Molapisi, who is also the UDC Chairman, revealed that running a government is not easy and there will always be challenges.He expressed confidence that the UDC will deliver on its election promises to Batswana. He said it is still early for people to condemn the new government.According to the BPP leader, a lot has to be fixed that was messed up by the past administration.“We are always engaging each other on how best we can serve Batswana as a new government. Of course, there are always differences, but we always find a way to deal with them.We do advise our comrades, and they do take advice. Recently, I was with President Advocate Duma Boko discussing matters around the UDC and the government, and agreed on how we will engage and tackle challenges facing the party, the government, and Batswana going forward”, Molapisi said.
