Dr. Kutlwano Mukokomani, Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer of the Botswana Red Cross Society, has been recognised among the top ten recipients of the 2025 Biennial Alumni Excellence Award by North-West University (NWU). The prestigious ceremony, held in Pretoria, celebrated outstanding alumni who exemplify excellence, leadership, service, and innovation across diverse fields.
The Biennial Alumni Excellence Awards honour NWU graduates who have made remarkable contributions both locally and globally. The awards encompass ten categories that recognise leadership, innovation, and social impact, reflecting the university’s commitment to nurturing individuals who transform communities and industries.
Dr. Mukokomani was honoured for his outstanding leadership and influence in community engagement and for championing community-centred solutions that promote sustainable development. His career reflects a deep commitment to humanitarian and social progress across Southern Africa.
Over the years, Dr. Mukokomani has played key roles in several transformative initiatives, including the USAID Integrated River Basin Management Project (IWRM) in Namibia, Angola, and Botswana, where he contributed to establishing the OKACOM Secretariat. He also worked with the UNDP-GEF Integrated Water Resources Management Project, helping to develop Botswana’s IWRM plan. His subsequent involvement with the Botswana Harvard AIDS Partnership supported the implementation of the Botswana Combination Prevention Project (BCPP), aimed at strengthening HIV prevention and health systems.
Before assuming his current leadership role, Dr. Mukokomani served with the International Training and Education Center for Health (I-TECH), leading community-based public health initiatives. At the Botswana Red Cross Society, his leadership continues to advance sustainable and impactful humanitarian services nationwide. He has been instrumental in promoting principled and ethical humanitarian response, while empowering local communities to address pressing challenges such as climate change, health crises, migration, protection, gender, and inclusion.
Beyond his humanitarian work, Dr. Mukokomani has been a strong advocate for youth engagement, volunteering, localisation, and accountability within humanitarian response systems. These efforts earned him additional recognition in 2025, when he received the Botswana Top 100 CEOs Leadership Excellence Award from the Progressive Institute, under the Organisational Transformation category.
Dr. Mukokomani holds a BA in Economics from the University of Botswana, a Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Project Management from the University of Cape Town, an MBA in Operations and Decision Management, and a PhD in Economics and Management Sciences (Business Administration) from North-West University. He is currently completing a Master of Advanced Studies in
Humanitarian Leadership at the University of Lucerne, Switzerland.
