The annual Fairscape Carols by Candlelight event, held recently at the Fairscape Precinct, brought together Fairscape tenants, corporate partners, and guests to celebrate the festive season with a spirit of unity and giving. The event, now in its 6th instalment, was marked by the warmth of community, the beauty of song, and a strong call to action for social responsibility.

Speaking at the event, Chief Investment Evaluation & Portfolio Risk of Botswana Development Corporation (BDC), Botshelo Mokotedi, who delivered the holiday season message, emphasised the importance of community and generosity during this time of year. “Tonight, as we light our candles and raise our voices, let us remember that this is a season of joy, peace, and hope—a time to share love with those around us,” he stated. “In moments like these, we are reminded that, even in the darkest of times, the smallest light can make the biggest difference. Each of us carries within us a light—a smile, a kind word, an act of generosity—that has the power to brighten someone else’s day.”

This year’s event focused not only on celebrating the season but also on the importance of giving back to the community. One of the primary causes supported was the provision of sanitary pads for young girls. Mokotedi highlighted how the lack of access to these essential products can impact girls’ education, preventing them from attending school during their menstrual cycles. Donations of sanitary pads were collected throughout the evening to help ensure that girls in the community can continue their education without interruption.

The Fairscape Carols by Candlelight event is a testament to the power of community, bringing people together to celebrate the season with song and fellowship. BDC, as a proud supporter of corporate social responsibility, aligned this initiative with Botswana’s Vision 2036, which strives for broad prosperity for all. Mokotedi further called on corporates alike to consider their role in supporting such initiatives, emphasising that businesses have a responsibility to make a tangible impact on society.

“As we near the close of another year, I encourage each of you to reflect on the journey we have shared. It has been a year full of challenges, yet your unwavering support has been the cornerstone of our collective success. Together, we will continue to build on the foundation we have laid, creating a more inclusive and prosperous Botswana for all,” said Mokotedi in closing.
