Thanks to AECI Botswana, hundreds of pupils in the Kuke area will no longer have to endure the harsh weather as they go to school barefoot or with worn-out foot wear.
The company, which supports the mining sector, has launched 'Barefoot Nomore,' an initiative aimed at addressing the challenges faced by students in the Kuke area. This not only affects their self-esteem but also their participation and success in education.
During a special event held at Kuke Primary School last week, AECI Human Capital Business Partner - Botswana and Namibia (A) Kebone Gadise highlighted AECI's commitment to fostering a better world through innovation and sustainability.
AECI Botswana donated 600 blankets, 600 pairs of socks and 600 pairs of 100 percent recycled and recyclable school shoes to the learners of Kuke Primary School.
These shoes are designed to be durable, water-resistant and easy to maintain, requiring only a simple wipe with a wet cloth rather than regular polishing.
Gadise emphasised that the initiative reflects AECI’s dedication to 'Going Green,' underscoring their commitment to environmental sustainability.
"By choosing recycled and recyclable materials, AECI is contributing to waste reduction and resource conservation," he said.
"The initiative aligns with the broader vision of President Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, whose mindset change agenda encourages innovative and responsible actions to propel the nation toward a sustainable and prosperous future," he added.
Gadise also referenced a key message from AECI Group CEO, Holger Riemensperger during their centenary celebrations. “We are a business from generations, for generations, a principle that guides AECI’s efforts to make a lasting impact."
He underscored the importance of education as a cornerstone of a thriving society.
"By providing essential items such as shoes and blankets, AECI Botswana is ensuring that every child has the opportunity to attend school with comfort and dignity, thereby supporting their educational journey."
Maintenance Manager, Bernard Molebalwa said the company is determined to assist the communities they operate in. He thanked the school for their commitment towards nurturing future leaders and extended heartfelt appreciation to the entire village, its leaders and all other stakeholders.
